Robert Lewandowski would be the ideal transfer for Chelsea right now. With Romelu Lukaku on his way to Inter Milan, the Blues may need to find an immediate replacement. There are a number of strikers on the market that could be a perfect fit for Thomas Tuchel but of course, Lewandowski is at the top of that list.

Tuchel has urged Chelsea to try for the Poland international despite his interest in a move to Barcelona. The facts are that the Catalans are in a difficult financial situation on which Chelsea could capitalise. However, it is also imperative the other options are explored.

Richarlison, Jonathan David, Victor Osimhen and Gianluca Scamacca are all options in the transfer window that the Blues are reportedly considering. With that being said who would be the better fit for Chelsea? Who will actually fill the void that has not been filled since the departure of Diego Costa?

Thomas Tuchel’s team are in need of a prolific goal scorer. There have been a number of chances missed throughout the season to feed the frustrations of Chelsea fans worldwide. Replacing Lukaku would be an easy job, but actually making an impact in the team’s attack is an expectation that has been proven difficult to fulfil.

Frank Lampard has a special player on his hands at Everton. Richarlison has continuously been one of Everton’s stand-out players in recent years. His link-up play with other attackers around him allows a level of fluidity that many felt Chelsea lacked with Lukaku. He is also eager and has a hunger like no other at the age of 25. Victor Osimhen is also another young player that shares the same level of determination as well as Johnathan David.

The question is whether or not any of these options could fill the longstanding void left by Diego Costa in 2017.

London rivals, Arsenal and Tottenham share similar transfer interests with Richarlison and Osimhen. Both are young, talented players who are yet to unlock their full potential. Whilst the Gooners and Lilywhites have to go all-in for a new striker, it is imperative that The Blues stay in a lane for Robert Lewandowski. As talented as their pool of options are, the Blues are in need of a forward that will hit the ground running. Potential just isn’t enough at this stage, especially as Chelsea already have a pool of young talent in their rankings.

Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi have an average age of 22. Whilst they were pivotal on Chelsea’s run to Champions League victory in 2021, they still need an element of experience to take it up a notch in the Premier League. There’s nobody more prolific and experienced in the market than Lewandowski himself, so why focus elsewhere? The aim should be to fill the void of Costa and not to just merely replace Romelu Lukaku if Chelsea are to seriously contend with Manchester City and Liverpool next season.

Where Richarlison and Osimhen will thrive is a place without the excessive pressure that Chelsea fans have placed on their previous number 9s.
